Upright and Grand Pianos of the Ritmüller brand impress not only by their shapely cabinets: they conceal high-quality components that create a wonderful sound. To the pride of its owner and to the joy of every music lover. No wonder that the manufacturer Pearl River is now known and popular all over the world: the unique quality in flawless design has made Pearl River one of the world’s leading piano manufacturers. The 130,000 grand and upright pianos leaving our factory every year convince discerning musicians in Europe, China, Japan and the USA.
Gottlieb Wilhelm Ritmüller began as a self-taught artist at the end of the 18th century making musical instruments since 1795 in Göttingen, Germany. In addition to the construction of a few harps, it was his well-sounding guitars that initially formed the focus of his work and quickly made him renown. Piano construction soon became the centre of production.
Ritmüller built their famous upright and grand pianos and distributed them throughout Germany and the neighbouring countries. The Hardenberger Hof factory was also a meeting place for artists and musicians. Here in the 1850s Johannes Brahms, Joseph Joachim and other well-known musicians met during the summer holidays to make music and discuss. Here Brahms experienced his famous romance with the Göttingen professorial daughter Agathe von Siebold, who also left traces in his musical work.
The beauty and precision of the products of the Pianoforte-Fabrik Wilhelm Ritmüller still testify to instruments in the Municipal museum Göttingen and other collections today.
